Picture a bar. On one end is Holiness (perfection, the presence of God). On the other end is evil (absence of God). Evil is the opposite of holiness. It is non-holiness.
When God speaks of the presence of evil, He is referring to:

The evil in men that leads them to commit crimes.

The mediums of evil- those who contact and communicate with evil spirits, delve in the occult.

The evil spirits themselves: The fallen angels in our midst who desire to ruin us, the unseen forces who tempt us.
God’s Statements:
Do not seek evil.
Do not ask for help from those who are evil or employ evil ways.
Do not call on evil, communicate with unholy spirits or ask for their help and services.
Trust in God alone.
